Call for Papers:
The Graduate and Teaching Assistant Organization (GTAO) at North Dakota
State University in Fargo, North Dakota invites all graduate students in
the fields of literature, composition, linguistics, and creative writing
to submit abstracts for the fifth annual Red River Graduate Student
Conference (RRGSC). The conference will be held Friday, March 28th &
Saturday, March 29th, 2008 in Fargo at the NDSU Memorial Union. All paper
topics related to literature, composition, linguistics, and creative works
are welcome. Pedagogical workshop submissions are also encouraged.
Please consider this conference even if you are in the drafting stage of a
paper or project. Panel submissions are encouraged but not necessary.

The Conference:
On Friday afternoon we will hold workshop sessions devoted to sharing
material and assignments/projects used for teaching first-year English
courses. Though participation in the workshops is not necessary for
participation on Saturday, we strongly encourage additional submissions
for the Graduate Instructor workshops. Friday's workshops will be
followed by a roundtable discussion devoted to teaching in the classroom;
participation in the roundtables is open to anyone in attendance.

Following the workshops and presentations on Friday afternoon, we will
have an opening reception with light food and beverage. This reception
will be precede an evening of NDSU capstone presentations and
presentations of creative work from the regional MFA programs.

Saturday will continue with panel presentations on various topics related
to the field of English studies, which will conclude in the late
afternoon. Saturday's lunch will be one of the highlights of this year's
conference. Following a served lunch with your choice of a vegetarian or
meat option meal, Dr. Geofrey Sirc will present the keynote address. Dr.
Sirc will present material from his latest research.

Keynote:
Dr. Geofrey Sirc is currently a Horace T. Morse Distinguished Teaching
Professor of Composition at the University of Minnesota where he received
his Composition Theory PhD in 1985. He is the author of "Never Mind the
Tagmemics, Where's the Sex Pistols?," "Box Logic," Applications for
Expanding the Teaching of Composition (Utah State UP, 2002), and English
Composition as a Happening (Utah State UP, 2004) for which he received the
2002 W. Ross Winterowd award for the most outstanding book in composition
theory. His research and teaching interests include composition theory and
pedagogy, literacy studies, visual art, new media, and the modernist era.

Submissions:
Send abstracts of 250-500 words via email attachment in a Microsoft Word
file no later than Friday, February 29th, 2008 to
Michael.Tomanek@NDSU.edu. Please note any technology needs for your
presentation.

There is a registration fee of $15.00 for conference participation. This
registration fee includes conference materials, the Friday afternoon
workshops and evening reception, as well as Saturday's lunch with Dr.
Geoffrey Sirc as keynote speaker. Friday and Saturday's presentations are
free and open to the public. Payment information will be communicated via
e-mail upon receipt of submission.
