Andy Trump, a South Dakota native, was born and brought up in
Brookings.
Attending a liberal arts college briefly in Seattle, Andy returned
to SDSU and over time received one bachelors and 2 masters degree
there. Originally a theatre buff, Andy went into English (his
minor) and taught at SDSU and then University of Maryland--European
Division. While with UMD-ED, Andy taught speech communications and
English courses to military active service personnel and dependents
at U.S. military posts in Scotland and Germany, from 1984-86.
After returning to the U.S. Andy came to NDSU in 1987 and has been with the Department of English since that time. Although his teaching time is mostly consumed with English 110 (College Composition I) and 320 (Business/Professional Writing), Andy during fall semesters teaches English 220 (Introduction to Literature). Although covering the major literary genres of poetry, prose, and dramatic literature, a definite emphasize on the latter within 220 echoes Andy's continuing interest in theatre.
Periodically, Andy presents papers at Linguistic Circle of
Manitoba and North Dakota and Red River Conference on World
Literature (being a member
of the committee) on dramatic literature and variety of
playwrights. Also, he has moderated presentations of RRCWL plus
those of LCMMND when
sessions take place in Fargo. Andy was recently elected to Freshmen
English Committee as well.
