I typically teach Honors Composition, Peace and War Honors Seminar, Brit. Lit. Survey II, World Lit., Fantasy and Science Fiction, and British Romantic Literature
I strongly prefer teaching and scholarship to service, primarily
because they make the best uses of my nprofessional training, but
helping to shape programs in the humanities, especially programs
for gifted students, is also an enthusiasm of mine. The realities
of my life at NDSU have favored concentrating my efforts on
preparation for teaching and have allowed me to explore my
enthusiasms through the teaching of many more classes than I've
listed above, but the institution has recently provided much more
support for research and publishing than it has in the past, and
I've been pleased to see an increase in department research
activities without a compensatory decrease, so far as I can tell,
in the department's commitment to quality teaching as our primary
priority.
I have a wife, a dog, and 3,704 more relatives than I thought I had
before taking up genealogy. When I'm not with my wife, my dog, or
my 3,704 new relatives, a fair number of whom are still alive, I'm
likely to be off looking for birds.
