Professor, Minard 320C, 231-7175, Robert.Oconnor@ndsu.edu
I received my B.A. from Cornell University in 1970, my M.A. from SUNY/Binghamton in 1973, and my Ph.D.
from Bowling Green State University in 1979, each time as a Britiish Literature specialist. After teaching
for several years in Texas, I came to NDSU in the fall of 1985 as a literary generalist with experience
teaching Composition and a specialized knowledge of British Romantic Literature. Since then, I have
expanded my teaching to include Science Fiction and Fantasy, British Fiction, and Victorian
Literature.
My research interests include Gothicism (especially Gothic parody), the fantasies of J. R. R. Tolkien, the
fiction of Philip K. Dick, and the influence of popular culture on 19th- and 20th- century British and
American literature. I have also collaborated with a member of the Music Department on the literary and
musical analysis of art song.
In the fall of 2008, I will be teaching Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Honors Composition.
