In Fall 08 Dr. Mara will teach Graduate Scholarship, British
Literature Survey II, and Writing in the Health Professions.
In Spring 09 Dr. Mara will offer British Fiction and a Graduate
level Irish Literature course.
Miriam Mara studies Modern and contemporary Irish literature,
especially the representation of bodies and health in literature,
and medical rhetoric, while she teaches in the Department of
English at North Dakota State University. Her early work
investigates the trope of anorexia in Irish literature. Publication
venues include Critique: Studies in Contemporary
Literature, Dickens Studies Annual and a number of
book chapters in collections such as The Current Debate about
the Irish Literary Canon. More recent efforts includes an
article titled "Reproductive Cancer: Female Autonomy & Border
Crossing in Medical Discourse and Fiction."
